War, Economic Crimes Court Executive Director Says Court’s Establishment Will Serve as Instrument of Peace

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Office of the War and Economic Crimes Court (WECC) Executive Director, Cllr. Jallah Barbu, says establishing the Court will serve as an instrument of peace.

Cllr. Barbu disclosed that despite the prevailing circumstances, the Court and anti-corruption court will be established in the first term of the current Liberian Government.

He said:” The WECC will be established early in the next two to three years to begin the process of prosecuting alleged war crimes perpetrators in Liberia.”

Cllr. Barbu stressed the importance of international partners in the setting up process, and the sustainability of the War and Economic Crimes Court.

Concerning the change of government in the United States, Cllr. Barbu is confident that Washington will continue its full support for the establishment of the WECC in Liberia.

Recently, the US Embassy near Monrovia issued a statement of support to the establishment of the Court.

Cllr. Barbu is optimistic that the incoming US President, Donald Trump, will fully support the efforts of the setting up of the Court.

Cllr Barbu made the comments Wednesday, November 6,2024, at a training organized by New Narratives for Journalists about the establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court in Liberia.
