Supreme Court of Liberia Hands Down Final Rulings in Murder Case Involving Fmr. Chief Justice Scott

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Supreme Court of Liberia will today, Wednesday, hand down rulings in the murder case involving former Chief Justice Gloria Scott and others guilty of murdering Charlotte Musu at their Brewerville residence in February 2023.

But, the Legal Team of the former Chief Justice has since taken an exception to the ruling and proffered an appeal to the Supreme Court.

On July 16 this year, the Presiding Justice-In-Chamber, Yusif Kaba, entertained legal arguments between State Prosecutors and Lawyers representing Cllr. Scott and others.

Meanwhile, Wednesday’s ruling will determine whether the Supreme Court will overturn or uphold the lower court’s ruling.

In another development, the Presiding Justice-In-Chamber Yusif Kaba has placed a Say Order on the alleged Corruption Case involving several ex-officials of the Liberian Government.

Lawyers Representing former Finance Minister Samuel Tweah and others filed a joint petition seeking to stop the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) and the Justice Ministry from proceeding with the 6.5 million US dollar case.

In an eighty-count application, the petitioners argued that the money in question was expanded by the National Security Community to keep the country safe during the 2023 elections.

They also cited the looming and persistent security threats at the time that necessitated the Government’s action of securing and expending the money in the interest of national security.

Meanwhile, State Prosecutors and the Defense Counsel are expected to appear before Justice Kaba for a conference on September 4.
