Internal Affairs Minister Calls for Fruitful Dialogue…..

NIMBA COUNTY, LIBERIA-Internal Affairs Minister Francis Nyumalin has called for constructive dialogue between ArcelorMittal-Liberia and the people of Nimba County to promote industrial harmony at the Company.

Minister Nyumalin said: “The Ministry has constituted various Committees involving representatives of the Liberian Government and civil society organizations to work along with ArcelorMittal-Liberia and residents to address concerns raised by affected communities.

The Internal Affairs Minister warned over the weekend during a meeting with representatives of affected communities and Management of the Company in Yekepa, Nimba County.

He also called on the residents of affected communities to use constructive engagement with the Company to seek redress to their grievances.

The locals of the affected communities have decried unemployment, scholarships, water supplies, medical benefits, and waste disposal, among others, as critical grievances put forth for urgent consideration.

In remarks, ArcelorMittal-Liberia Chief Operational Manager, Andrew Taylor, has assured residents of the affected communities and the Government that actions will be taken to address their various concerns.

Mr. Taylor disclosed that the Company’s actions will go beyond what is being discussed, assuring a second phase investment of 1.7 billion USD in the Country.

He vowed that the Company would work with the residents of various communities in Nimba County for the benefit of Liberia and its people and Arcelor Mittal-Liberia.

The ArcelorMittal Chief Operational Manager also praised the Government of Liberia’s intervention efforts led by Internal Affairs Minister Francis Nyumalin and the residents of the affected communities for a peaceful settlement of the unrest at ArcelorMittal-Liberia.
