Liberian Senate Instructs Joint Committee on Judiciary…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Senate has instructed its Joint Committee on Judiciary, Defense Intelligence, and Security to advise Plenary on the establishment of a War and Economic Crimes Courts in Liberia.

It followed a submission of a resolution by the House of Representatives to the Liberian Senate on the establishment of the Courts for concurrence.

Speaking in the Chambers of the Liberian Senate on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, Senate Protemp Nyonblee Karngar Lawrence said:” The Joint Committee is charged with the responsibility to inform the Liberian Senate appropriately on the way forward.”

She emphasized the need to take appropriate steps to bring the national debate on the establishment of the Courts to a logical conclusion.

Meanwhile, the Joint Committee is expected to report to the Liberian Senate in one week.

At the same time, Senate Protemp Lawrence is calling on members of the Liberian Senate to prioritize the needs of the Country by acting swiftly on the National Budget and other issues of concern.

The Grand Bassa County Senator said:” I envision a complete review of the revenue envelope to ensure that increments and program-based appropriations are acted upon for the wellbeing of the Liberian people.”

She added that the National Budget is the tool for development and the impacts of such must be felt in the seventy-three districts of the Country.

Protemp Lawrence also instructed the Committees on Ways, Means, and Finance and Public Accounts to ensure that appropriations are program-based.

She further disclosed that both Houses have agreed on a Joint Committee to deliberate on the Draft National Budget.
