House of Rep. Mandates Committee on Ways, Means and Finance…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The House of Representatives has mandated its Committee on Ways, Means, and Finance to begin immediate revision and scrutiny of the Draft 2024 National Budget of Liberia.

According to ELBC Legislative Reporter, this will fast-track the passage of the Budget to facilitate the unhindered Government’s development programs and priorities.

The mandate is consistent with President Joseph Boakai’s recent proclamation, recalling the National Legislature to deliberate on crucial issues of national importance.

The Executive, through the Ministry of Finance, recently submitted the Draft National Budget of six hundred ninety-two million US Dollars.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has instructed the Committee to report to Plenary in fourteen working days.

At the same time, the Executive Branch of the Government of Liberia has submitted for ratification an additional financing agreement between the Liberian Government and the International Development Association (IDA).

Under the second financing agreement, the IDA will provide credit facilities of seventy-six million US Dollars to boost Agriculture production in Liberia.

In a communication, President Joseph Boakai said:” The ratification will ensure the smooth implementation of the Rural Economic Transformation Project.

The Liberian Leader believes, if ratified, the RE-TRAP Project will improve market access to smallholder farmers and Agri-enterprises in selected counties.

Meanwhile, the Plenary has taken a seizure of the matter and forwarded it to its Committees on Agriculture, Ways, Means, and Finance.
