WHO to Celebrate World Health Day

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The World Health Organization (WHO) in Liberia has released a series of activities for the celebration of World Health Day slated for April 7, this year.

 WHO Country Representative Dr. Clement Peter named immunization against cervical cancer, voluntary blood donation, and donation of wheelchairs to people living with disabilities.

The WHO Country Director said:” The vaccination will mainly focus on women and girls, in a bid to prevent cervical cancer among their population.”

Dr. Peter said:” It is the responsibility of every Country to ensure the vaccination of about ninety percent of girls and women to reduce the rate of cervical cancer.”

Speaking at a Press Conference Tuesday in Monrovia, the WHO Country Representative said the Agency will initiate a free voluntary cervical cancer vaccination for girls ahead of the World Health Day celebration on April 7.

According to Dr. Peter, the activities will highlight and raise awareness about the important need to tackle various diseases and physical conditions confronting humans globally.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization Liberia Office is set to launch a blood donation drive in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.

The blood donation drive will encourage Liberians and UN-staffs to voluntarily donate to the national blood bank of the Country.

WHO Country Representative Dr. Clement Peter maintained that blood donation signifies the importance of the element in the survival of everyone’s life.

He stressed the need for blood to be freely given to the needed patients anytime, and anywhere, noting that no one should pay for life-saving blood.

Dr. Peter emphasized the utmost importance for life-saving blood to be available at all times to be supplied to individuals in dire need.
