Liberia, Japan Sign Agreement to Expand Japan Freeway Corridor

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia, and Japan have signed an agreement for the extension of the Japan Freeway-Road Corridor between the Freeport of Monrovia and the Gabriel Tucker Bridge.

The ceremony took place in Monrovia on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, in line with President Joseph Boakai’s request to expand the road network across Liberia.

Speaking at the event, Japanese Ambassador to Liberia, Mochizuki Hisanobu, said:” Improving Liberia’s infrastructure is one of the key pillars of cooperation between the two countries.”

Ambassador Hisanobu noted that the bilateral cooperation between Liberia and Japan has, over the years, accrued mutual benefit.

He said the Government of Japan stands ready to provide continued support to the Government of Liberia upon the completion of the targeted project.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti has described the signing ceremony as a testament to improved Japan-Liberia cooperation.

Minister Nyanti said:” Over the years, Japan has provided holistic support to Liberia, and I can assure you that the bilateral relations subsisting between both countries will be further strengthened.”

The Liberia Foreign Minister noted that the continued support Japan has provided to Liberia is an attestation of their longstanding relations.

Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti also indicated that what Liberians have been yarning for is back to improve their livelihood.
