Police Investigate 23 in Connection to Kinjor Incident

Twenty-three persons are facing police inquiry in Monrovia in connection with the Kinjor incident at Bea Mountain in Grand Cape Mount County.

Police Inspector General, Col. Gregory Coleman, has assured of a transparent and impartial investigation and urged the public to fully cooperate.

Col. Coleman told a news conference on Saturday, March 2, 2024, that police assigned to the area fired live rounds due to threats posed to their lives.

The Police Inspector General said:” The Liberia National Police (LNP) has nothing to hide because it is committed to restoring public trust.”

Widespread industrial unrest has intensified in recent months at concession companies due to reported gross violations of social contracts with the locals across the Country.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Commission on Human Rights is calling for an impartial investigation into the Kinjor incident.

Recently, aggrieved residents of Kinjor and other parts staged a violent protest which resulted in the death of one person and injured several others at Bea Mountain in Grand Cape Mount County.

According to a release issued recently, the Commission wants such an investigation to unveil the role of the police during the incident, followed by findings and recommendations.

The release also quotes the Commission’s Chairperson, Cllr. Dempster Brown, as describing the deadly Kinjor incident as totally unwarranted and unacceptable.

Meanwhile, Cllr. Brown is calling on residents of Kinjor communities to exercise restraints as the Commission monitors the situation.
