International Partners Laud Nat’l Elections Commission for Impartiality…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-A two-day post-election review has ended with the National Elections Commission (NEC) commended for being impartial during the electoral process.

The Election Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA) said that NEC officials, including the Chairperson, showed no intention of cheating for a particular political party or candidate.

EISA’s assessment of last year’s elections was released on Thursday, February 29, 2024, in Monrovia by the Head of Mission and former Zambia Vice President, Dr. Nevers Mumba, following the end of the review process.

Dr. Mumba also urged the National Government and election stakeholders to begin the entire funding of future elections, instead of relying on international partners.

According to him, democracy is not cheap and African countries must begin to remove the burden from other countries in Europe and America to solely support their democracies.

Meanwhile, USAID Mission Director and Acting US Embassy Charge d’ affairs has lauded the NEC Chairperson, Madam Davidetta Brown-Lansanah for her leadership throughout the election.

Mr. Jim Wright said:” The transparency and credibility of the elections can be attributed to the NEC’s independence, the work of civil society, media, and all election observation missions in Liberia.”

Mr. Wright reaffirmed the US Government’s commitment to supporting Liberia’s democracy, and urged all election stakeholders, like EISA, to begin the process of reflecting on the successes and challenges of future elections.

The USAID Mission Director also used the occasion to pay tribute to the fallen NEC Communications Director, Henry Flomo, for his dedicated service to the Commission over the years.
