Legal Advisor to Pres. Boakai Discloses Plans to Resubmit Bill to Remove Tenure Positions

MONROVIA, The Legal Advisor to the President of Liberia has disclosed plans by President Joseph Boakai to re-submit a bill seeking to remove all tenure positions in the Liberian Government.

Cllr. Bushuben Keita said:” The bill was first submitted by former President George Weah and passed by the House of Representatives and the Liberian Senate, but the bill was not signed into law.”

Addressing the weekly Executive Mansion Press Briefing on Friday, February 23, 2024, in Monrovia, Cllr. Keita said:” The intention of the Government of Liberia is not to get rid of certain tenure positions but all, in keeping with the law.”

He justified that removing tenure positions was first contemplated by the previous Government, and is being considered by the UP-led Government.

The President’s Top Legal Aide argued that President Joseph Boakai’s appointment to some of the tenure positions, whose officials violated the Code of Conduct, is in keeping with the law, especially Article 56 (a) of the Constitution of Liberia.
