Small Holder Farmers in Grand Cape Mount County Appeals for Support

MONROVIA, LIBERIA -A Group of smallholder farmers in Tawor District, Grand Cape Mount County, is appealing to the Government of Liberia and NGOs to support their agriculture initiative to promote food security in Liberia.

The Organizer and Chairman of the Tawor Agriculture Farmers’ Cooperative Society, Morris Golafaley, said:” I infused an initial amount of twenty-two million Liberian Dollars and later incorporated smallholder farmers into the Cooperative Society for empowerment.”

Speaking in an ELBC interview recently, Mr. Golafaley added that their group is engaged in agriculture production with a focus on rice, cassava, plantains, pineapples, cocoa, vegetables, and animal husbandry.

He said:” We have cultivated about 120 acres of farmland in  Tawor District, where the group is currently harvesting cassava, plantains, bananas, and pineapples for sale on the local market.”

Mr. Golafaley, however, underscored transportation means of having access to markets as a major challenge and wants the Government of Liberia and its partners to come to their aid.
