Morocco Delegation to Conduct Two Weeks Fish Stock Assessment in Liberia

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-A Moroccan Delegation has arrived in Liberia to conduct a two-week fish stock assessment in the Country.

It followed an arrangement signed between the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) and the Moroccan Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forest, last year.

NaFAA Director of Communications, Lewis Konoe, said:” The move is aimed at gathering data in the Fisheries Sector, to develop a management plan for governance and ascertain commercial viability.”

Mr. Konoe told ELBC on Thursday, January 25, 2024, that the fish stock assessment, when completed, will help industrialize the Country’s Fisheries Sector.

He, however, praised the Governments and peoples of Morocco and Japan for their continuous support of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority.

Meanwhile, Mr. Konoe has outlined massive achievements at the entity.

Mr. Konoe named the distribution of standardized nets and life-saving jackets to fishmongers, as well as the protection of Liberia’s territorial waters from illegal fishing as some achievements.

The NaFAA Communications Boss is, however, urging fishmongers to work as cooperatives to supply the Liberian market with more fish stocks.

Mr. Lewis Konoe said such an initiative will not just contribute to the Country’s economy, but attract more investors in the Fisheries Sector.
