MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberians are excited to witness the Swearing in Ceremony of Liberia’s President-elect Joseph Boakai in the coming hours at the Capitol in Monrovia.
This democratic transition followed Ambassador Boakai’s victory in the 2023 highly contested Presidential race with outgoing President George Weah.
Before the 2023 Presidential race between outgoing President Weah and President-elect Boakai, they also faced off in a similar race in 2017.
According to the itinerary, foreign dignitaries have begun arriving, while others are expected to grace the fourth post-conflict inauguration.
Other foreign missions accredited to Liberia, current, former, and incoming officials of the Liberian Government, representatives of the religious community, and Civil Society Organizations, among others, are also expected to be in attendance.
Meanwhile, President-elect Joseph Boakai has vowed not to repeat the mistakes of his predecessors.
Ambassador Boakai said:” I remain committed to meeting the aspirations of the Liberian people to justify the confidence reposed in him through the ballot box.”
The President-elect was speaking on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at the Thanksgiving and Intercessory Service held at the Effort Baptist Church in Paynesville City.
He admonished citizens of like minds to come on board and assist in bringing the necessary changes to the Liberian people.
Ambassador Boakai rallied all Liberians to put away their political differences and forge ahead for the advancement of Liberia.
At the same time, a Baptist preacher is urging the incoming government to institute appropriate policy measures that will positively affect the lives of the Liberian people.
Rev. Trokon Lanford of the Effort Baptist Church said:” The overwhelming support demonstrated by Liberians towards the incoming administration suggests the change that they have been yearning for.”
Rev. Lanford also urged the incoming Boakai-led Government to prioritize programs and policies that will improve the living standards of the ordinary people.
He said:” Liberians continue to live in abject poverty, amid gross mismanagement of the abundant natural resources of the country over decades.”
