Liberia Joint Security Warns against Protest on Inauguration Day

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Joint Security of Liberia has warned against demonstrations and protestation on Inauguration Day, January 22. Deputy Police Inspector General for Operations, Col. Marvin Sackor, emphasized that the Joint Security zero-tolerance for would-be protestors on inauguration day will strictly be enforced.

Addressing the Ministry of Information, Culture Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) regular press briefing on Thursday, January 18, 2024, in Monrovia, Col. Sackor said:” The Joint Security is working diligently to ensure a peaceful inauguration program.”

He reaffirmed the Joint Security’s commitment to providing maximum protection for the inauguration of President-elect Joseph Boakai, on Monday, January 22, 2024.

The Deputy Police Inspector General for Operations also called on Liberians to work collaboratively with the Joint Security to ensure a smooth and peaceful transition process on Monday.

For his part, former Deputy Police Inspector General for Operations, Abraham Kromah, wants the incoming government to follow all security protocols for the inauguration.

Mr. Kromah said the move will help the Joint Security create an enabling and peaceful environment for the program, and expressed willingness to work along with the Joint Security to ensure a successful inauguration.

The former Deputy Police Inspector General for Operations then expressed confidence that the Joint Security would do its best to ensure a peaceful environment for the inauguration ceremony on Monday.
