UN Women Country Representative to Liberia Wants Gender Responsive Budget Passed

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-UN Women’s Country Representative to Liberia wants the Government of Liberia to ensure the passage of a Gender Responsive Budget.

Ms. Comfort Lamptey said:” The passage would fund the efforts of women’s rights organizations, the front liners for policy change.”

Ms. Lamptey said collective efforts are crucial to ensuring a country free of gender-based violence.

She also expressed delight over the gains of the Government in the first against Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV).

The UN Women Envoy made the remarks in Paynesville City over the weekend when she launched this year’s Sixteen Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.

In a related development, the Liberian Government has laudered its partners for support towards the fight against Gender-Based Violence.

Gender Minister Williametta Saydee-Tarr also praised the collaboration between the government and the traditional leaders against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).

Madam Saydee-Tarr boosted the establishment of four Heritage Centers in Liberia under the African Union (AU) Spotlight Initiative.

Gender Minister Williametta Saydee-Tarr said:” Traditional leaders will regularly meet and brainstorm at the Heritage Centers on ideas that tend to replace mutilation with initiation from the Liberian culture.”
