Liberia Muslim Groups Seeks Peace through Fast and Prayer

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Several Muslim women groups in Liberia have begun a vigorous three-day fast and prayer, ahead of the November 14 Presidential Run-Off Election.

The move is intended to seek God’s face for the conduct of a peaceful election in Liberia, on Tuesday, November 14.

Speaking at the start of the event in Congo Town, the Head of Liberian Women for Peace, Counselor Asatu Bah-Kenneh, urged Liberians, especially youths, to detach themselves from violence during and after the election.

Counselor Bah-Kenneh said:” Doing so will also help strengthen Liberia’s growing democracy and cement ties with other developed nations in the region.”

She, however, lauded the National Elections Commission (NEC) for the peaceful conduct of the October 10 Presidential and Legislative elections.

Meanwhile, the Head of Liberia’s National Muslim Council, Iman Ali Krayee, is urging religious leaders, especially Muslims, to refrain from political endorsements ahead of Tuesday, November 14 Run-Off election.

Iman Krayee said:” It is absolutely unacceptable to see religious leaders getting involved in political activities when they should be peace-makers for the Country and its people.”

He noted that such act by some religious leaders during the electoral process continues to undermine the reputation of the Country’s religious community.

The Liberian Chief Iman wants those preaching the gospel to be neutral during political season, to foster peace and religious tolerance among political actors.

Iman Ali Krayee was speaking Wednesday, November 8, 2023, in Congo Town, at the start of an exercise organized by several Muslim groups.
