Vote Counting Continues Following Liberia’s General Elections

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Vote counting is said to be continuing following Tuesday’s Presidential and Legislative Elections in Liberia.

The voting process started on time at most polling places, though there were some late starts in other parts of the country.

Consistent with the election laws of Liberia, the National Elections Commission has fifteen-day period to release final results and declare winners, respectively.

Meanwhile, the National Elections Commission is expected to announce provisional results of the just-ended 2023 Elections later today.

Meanwhile, the NEC has announced some challenges faced in Sinoe and Rivercess Counties.

NEC Chairperson Davidetta Brown-Lansanah told a press briefing on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, that polling materials could not reach parts of Sinoe County due to the overflow of a major river and extreme rainfall.

Madam Brown-Lansanah also said the truck carrying election materials could not reach Butaw in Sinoe County, because it got stuck in the mud.

In Rivercess County, the NEC added that voting will be extended if need be in some parts due to the overflow of Timbo River.
