USAID, Liberia Sign Agreement to implement Land Management Activity

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between USAID and the Liberian Land Authority (LLA) for the successful implementation of the Land Management Activity.

The Land Management Activity is a USAID-funded project that seeks to help customary communities acquire, for the first time in their history, legal titles to their lands.

As part of the MoU, the LLA is expected to work with USAID and ECODIT, implementing arm of the Land Management Activity, on behalf of USAID, to ensure communities receive their customary land deeds within about sixty days of completing the process required to formalize title to their land.

The LLA will, among other things, support the LMA surveyor capacity development program, timely resolve all community boundary disputes, and conduct confirmatory surveys for communities that have successfully resolved all such disputes.

For its part, USAID, through ECODIT, will collaborate with the Land Authority to provide technical assistance to help customary communities satisfy the requirements for securing their land management.

USAID Mission Director, Jim Wright, signed on behalf of his organization, while Liberia Land Authority Chairman, Atty. Adam Manobah signed on behalf of his entity.
