Nat’l Elections Commission Cautions on Failure to Meet Threshold on Candidate Nomination

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-National Elections Commission (NEC) says failing to meet up with the threshold on Candidate Nomination risks rejection.

NEC Director of Communication, Henry Flomo, said:” The exercise is intended to determine the candidate’s compliance with the Commission’s required threshold on Candidate Nomination.”

He told the ELBC nighttime program, Open Conversation, over the weekend that candidates failing to meet up with the Commission’s required threshold on Candidate Nomination could face possible rejection, and not participate in the ensuing elections.

Liberians are due to go to the polls on October 10, this year, to elect their national leaders for another six years.

Meanwhile, the NEC says it will shortly begin reviewing and validating its Code of Conduct for Media Coverage of the pending October 10 elections.

Mr. Flomo said, the Commission along with Internews, will on Monday, July 17, 2023, begin the revision and validating exercise in Monrovia.

He said during the exercise, the Commission will remind media outlets about the Farmington Declaration signed by political parties, coalitions, and alliances.

He said the Commission anticipates that the media will guard against misinformation and disinformation that may ensue, regarding the election process.

The National Elections Commission Communication Chief, Henry Flomo, maintained that such a guard is critical in helping the Commission to conduct free, fair, peaceful, and transparent elections.
