Nat’l Elections Commission Stresses No Extension…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The National Elections Commission (NEC) has again repeated its stance that there will be no extension in the ongoing Candidate Nominations.

NEC Chairperson, Davidetta Browne-Lansanah, disclosed that the Commission has received ninety packages from the 3,225 packages picked up by political parties and independent candidates.

Madam Browne-Lansanah said:” Out of the ninety packages, political parties account for sixty-three, while twenty-seven are from independent candidates.”

The candidate nomination process got underway at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville on June 14 and will end on July 14, 2023.

The month-long Candidate Nomination process is consistent with NEC Electoral Guidelines to ensure political aspirants pick up packages to be qualified as candidates for the 2023 October 10 Presidential and Legislative Elections.

Meanwhile, the reconciliation of nationwide exhibition data from the provisional voter registration roll is nearing completion at the NEC Data Center.

The process, according to the NEC Chairperson, is considering all voter registration records being processed during the exhibition period.

Madam Davidetta Browne-Lansanah said: The records represent voters who made claims for corrections, inclusion or objection to inclusion, suspected underage registration, and multiple registrations.”

The NEC Boss disclosed that because of the late arrival of exhibition data from the Southeast due to a bad road, the adjustment has been made to release the final registration figure.
