EU Head of Delegation Says EU Poised to Sign Four Financing Agreements…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The European Union Head of Delegation to Liberia, Laurent Delahousse, says the EU is poised to sign four major financing agreements with the Liberian Government.

Ambassador Delahousse said:” The focus of the agreements is to strengthen election financing for the successful conduct of the October 10 polls”.

He said:” Through the UNDP and the Liberia Elections Support Project, the EU is also providing additional ten million United States Dollars to strengthen the capacity of the National Elections Commission (NEC)”.

Ambassador Delahousse noted that the EU will also support observation missions to ensure the credibility of the elections.

The EU Ambassador said ongoing discussions with elections stakeholders so far are glaring signs of a more inclusive and transparent process in October.

Meanwhile, the EU has expressed explicit confidence in the NEC to hold free, fair, credible, and transparent elections.

Ambassador Delahousse said:” The EU has no doubt in the capacity of the Commission to conduct the process”.

He said despite minor technical glitches during the start of the Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) exercise, he is convinced the process is well on track.

He added that the usage of the BVR System will ensure the detection of fraud and double registrations during the process.

Ambassador Delahousse, however, wants political actors and electorates to trust the Country’s electoral body.

He spoke as a guest on ELBC Super Morning Show on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, in Paynesville.
