Nat’l Elections Commission to Begin Election Campaign Violations Documentation

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The NATIONAL Elections Commission (NEC) Chairperson, Davidetta Browne-Lansanah, has disclosed that the Commission will shortly begin the documentation of election campaign violations.

Madam Browne-Lansanah said the documentation process will start on May 5, 2023.

She said:” Actions will be taken against violators in line with the revised campaign guidelines distributed among all registered political parties”.

The NEC Boss said:” Pre-campaign activities are punishable with a fine of not less than one or over five thousand United States Dollars”.

She spoke on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at the end of a one-day Inter-Party Consultative Committee Meeting held at the Commission’s Headquarters in Sinkor, Monrovia.

Meanwhile, the European Union Ambassador to Liberia, Laurent Delahousse, says:” Voter trucking is against the basic principles of representative democracy”.

Ambassador Delahousse noted that the practice is against election regulations and should be discouraged.

He also wants a level playing field created in the pending October 10 elections, where all political actors will abide by the election laws of the Country.

The EU Ambassador said:” The implementation of all election laws and guidelines will strengthen the Country’s emerging democracy”.
