Commerce Ministry Cautions Violators of Intellectual Property Regulations…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Ministry of Commerce is cautioning violators of Intellectual Property Regulations to desist or risk the consequence of non-compliance.

A release quotes the Commerce Ministry as calling for strict adherence to Liberia’s Intellectual Property Regulations.

The release made specific reference to users of creative contents, particularly music, art and movies, among others.

According to the release, majority of users of creative contents are in gross non-compliance with rules governing commercial use of materials bearing Intellectual Property Rights, and in total disregard to the Intellectual Property Act.

The Commerce Ministry said it considers such as an implied violation of General Business Laws of the Country, the Intellectual Property Laws, and further undermines Liberia’s commitment to International Trade Rules.

The Ministry is, meanwhile, urging registered businesses using creative contents in the Country to obtain the needed copyright clearances and licenses, before commercial exploitation of creative contents as prescribed by law.
