Nat’l Elections Commission Begins Biometric Voter Registration

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The National Elections Commission (NEC) will today, Monday, begin the First Phase of the Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) exercise.

The First Phase of the VBR exercise will take place from March 20 to April 9, in six of Liberia’s fifteen counties.

Liberian citizens of voting age in Bomi, Grand Bassa, Grand Cape Mount, Margibi, Gbarpolu and Montserrado Counties will be registered by NEC during Phase One of the exercise.

Phase Two, which kicks off on April 21, will register citizens in Bong, Grand Gedeh, Grand Kru, Lofa, Rivercess, River Gee and Sinoe Counties.

NEC said people will disabilities; pregnant women and old people will be given special preference to register during the VBR exercise.

Meanwhile, the National Elections Commission says it is a crime for people to register more than once, adding that violators will face the wrath of the law.

At the same time, President George Weah is rallying Liberians, especially eligible voters, to take advantage of the voter registration exercise.

President Weah reminded Liberians that the exercise is an important civic duty that they must perform as patriotic citizens.

The Liberian Leader said:” Liberians should be informed that their voter’s card will allow them make a decision to have better health care services and education, as well as improved infrastructure.”

President George Weah also challenge each citizens to inform family members, friends and neighbors, age 18 and above, about the voter registration exercise.
