Senate cites Nat’l Elections Commission…..

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Senate has cited authorities of the National Elections Commission (NEC) and the Public Procurement Concession Commission (PPCC), to provide detail information on the Biometric Voter Registration System.

It followed communication from Senators Edwin Snowe and Jonathan Sogbie of Bomi and River Gee Counties.

Senators Snowe and Sogbie said the issuance of biometric contract to EKEMP, A Chinese Company, for the upcoming elections is troubling and needs clarity.

They added that the NEC needs to carry out demonstration and testing of the biometric system to assure Liberians of its effectiveness before the 2023 General Elections.

The two Senators noted that Liberia does not have stable internet and electricity, especially in rural areas, thus rendering the system questionable.

Meanwhile, Plenary has requested the immediate appearance of Authorities of NEC on Friday, September 26, 2022, to provide clarity on the matter.
