Senate confirms Justice Sie-A-Nyene Youh as new Chief Justice

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Senate has confirmed Cllr. Sie-A-Nyene Youh as the new Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia.

Her confirmation followed days of credential review by the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The Committee, in its report, noted that Cllr. Yuoh has performed beyond all reasonable doubt, thus assuming the post will be a plus to the Judiciary.

Justice Yuoh is set to replace the retiring Francis Korkpor as Chief Justice of Liberia.

Chief Justice Francis Korkpor will retire from the post early next month, when he reaches the age of seventy.

Meanwhile, the Judiciary has formally announced the retirement of Chief Justice Francis Korkpor, as of the close of the March Term of Court.

This, according to the Judiciary, will enable him perform judicial responsibilities before him, which he entertained before his 70th birthday as provided for by the 1986 Constitution.

Article 72 (b) of the 1986 Constitution provides that the Chief Justice and Associate Justices of the Supreme Court and Judges of Subordinate Courts of records shall be retired at the age of seventy.

The Constitution also provides a justice or a judge who has attained that age may continue in office for as long as may be necessary to enable him to render judgment or perform any other judiciary duty in regards to proceeding entertained by him before attaining retirement age.

Meanwhile, the Judiciary has expressed heartfelt appreciation to Chief Justice Korkpor for his dedication, commitment and immeasurable services to the Judiciary.
