Liberia Gov‘t links with US in Kante’s Diplomatic Passport Saga investigations

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia is liaising with the United States, to ensure a comprehensive investigation in the diplomatic passport saga involving Bassirou Kante.

On May 10, 2022, President George Weah directed Foreign Minister Dee-Maxwell Kemayah to investigate information about Mr. Kante’s diplomatic passport, after he was reportedly arrested by the FBI in the United States.

Speaking at the regular Ministry of Information Press Conference on Thursday, May 19, 2022, in Monrovia, Foreign Minister Kemayah said:” I personally spoke with the US Ambassador to broker a corridor of information sharing with his government , in the passport saga.”

In addition, Minister Kemah disclosed that the Liberian Government has notified the US Government through diplomatic means, to provide sensitive documents and assistance that will aid and conclude the investigation.

The Liberian Government requested the US to produce a colored- copy of the controversial diplomatic passport that was reportedly confiscated by the FBI, and also assist with forensic examinations expertise.

Minister Kemayah noted that without this assistance from the US Government, the investigation will not fully be completed as expected.
