Facebook restores services after hours of global shutdown

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Facebook has restored its services after few hours of global shutdown paralyzing social media activities in Liberia.

Earlier a leading GSM operator in Liberia, Lonestar Cell MTN, had clarified the difficulties experienced in accessing three social media platforms; including Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, when they stopped working late Monday, September 4, 2021, afternoon.

The situations led to speculation that the government of Liberia had shut down the three social media platforms to conduct intelligence. In a massage to its customers Monday, Lonestar Cell MTN said the situation is a global issue.

The message said the Facebook team is working to have the issue re3solve as soon as possible. Meanwhile, the MTN Company has urged Liberians to refer to Facebook official platforms for regular updates.
