MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Academic activities at the state-run University of Liberia have again come to a standstill as the UL faculty begins a go-slow.

The UL Faculty Association over the weekend announced the go-slow citing several demands to be addressed by the administration.

The UL Faculty wants the administration address alleged disparities in salaries and allowances lecturers and administrative staff.

It called for salary increment for faculty members beginning 2022 budget year, improvement of working environment on the UL campuses and the general welfare of faculty members.

The ULFA leadership is at the same urging students to remain calm as their action is in the best interest of both the students and faculty members.

Meanwhile, the UL Administration says it has begun engagement with the faculty association to ensure they return to class.

UL President, Dr. Julius Sarwolo Nelson, told ELBC Monday that the Minister of Finance has instructed the UL administration to meet with a team at the ministry to review the equity salary scale at the university.

According to Dr. Nelson, the faculty association was encouraged to re-engage for the government to provide resources and personnel for the renovation efforts.

The UL President noted that the government has assured of its openness to visit the salary disparity and demand for increment at the university.

Dr. Nelson also called on the UL students to stay calm as the university administration is engaging the faculty to find appropriate solution to the situation.(By Sampson David)
