Prez. Weah’s Technical Disaster Committee begins implementation of its mandate

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Technical Disaster Committee, setup by President George Weah, in respond to recent fire outbreaks and other disasters in the Country, has begun implementing its mandate.

According to the Director of the Liberia National Fire Service, Col. Alex Dixon, the Committee includes the Ministries of Justice, Health, Disaster Management Agency and the Maritime Authority.

Col Dixon said a policy document, in conformity with the Committee’s mandate, is being prepared to ensure full compliance of fire safety measures at homes and public facilities.

He said following the completion of the policy document, fire fighters will be deployed at designated homes, businesses and Government-run facilities to begin a rigorous inspection of fire safety measures.

The Fire Service boss stated that the upcoming fire safety inspection excise will include awareness and the use of fire equipment including trucks, vehicles and extinguishers.

Meanwhile, the Forensic Team of the Fire Service says 75-percent of fire disasters that have occurred since 2019 are caused by faulty electrical connections.

The Fire Service Director, Col. Alex Dixon, said those faulty electrical connections are mostly done in Monrovia where fire disasters are on the increase.

On the C.H Rennie hospital fire incident, Col. Dixon said following the investigation, the Minister of Justice will release a report on the cause of fire and culpability.
