Six officials of Nat’l Red Cross block from leaving Liberia

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Six officials of the Liberia National Red Cross have been banned from leaving the Country by Criminal Court C, due to their alleged criminal act against the entity.

Judge Peter Gbeneweleh on Friday, July 9, 2021, issued the ban for defendants Emmanuel Kparh, Fayiah Tamba, Sekou Kanata, Marwein Hands, Wali Tabla and Koboi Wolokollie.

Judge Gbeneweleh has instructed all state securities and agencies at various entry points to arrest the living bodies of the defendants in question, if they attempt leaving.

His decision was based on an application filed to the court by the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) Chief Prosecutor, Cllr. Jerry Garlalwo, seeking for a writ of NE EXEAT Republica, to prevent the ex-Red Cross officials from leaving the Country.

They were indicted by the Grand Jury of Montserrado County for allegedly stealing over seventy-thousand United States Dollars from the Liberia National Red Cross (LNRC).

The amount in question was intended to fight the Ebola pandemic in 2014.

Still at the courts, Criminal Court ‘A’ has sentenced a 38-year-old man at the Monrovia Central Prison, for bursting his girlfriend right eye.

Defendant Mark Saye burst his 27-year-old girlfriend’s eye in April 2020, during a heated argument.

But defendant Mark openly confesses judgment in court to avoid litigations with Prosecuting lawyers, and later pleaded with his girlfriend and her family.

Upon his confession, Judge Roosevelt Willie sentenced Defendant Mark to three and half year’s imprisonment for aggravated assault.

The maximum jail sentence for aggravated assault is five years, but his confession led to the reduction of his imprisonment.
