LMDA calls on Gov’t to impose a nationwide lockdown

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Liberia Medical and Dental Association (LMDA) is recommending an immediate nationwide lockdown amidst the rapid spread of COVID-19 in the country.

LMDA in a statement said such move will help cutail the spread of new infections and the alarming death rate currently being experienced.

The governing body for Liberian Medical Practitioners also called on the government through the Ministry of Health to consider opening additional isolation and treatment centers around the country.

It said additional centers are necessary, given that current available facilities are rapidly running out of capacity and supplies to accommodate the increasing number of symptomatic COVID-19 cases.

The LMDA is also calling on the government to seek assistance from all potential sources in and out of the country to urgently invest in the health sector in the face of the pandemic.

The LMDA statement was read at a press conference Monday, June 21, 2021, by its Assistant Secretary General, Dr. Moses Ziah.

Dr. Ziah also wants government ensure that the entire population gets vaccinated by acquiring more doses of the vaccines and personal gears for the health workers.
