Liberian Senate to engage US Embassy over Senators Prince Johnson, Varney Sherman…..

MONROVIA, LIBERIAS – The Liberian Senate says it will engage the United States Embassy through diplomatic means, to clarify concerns they have expressed about the Senate’s recent leadership elections.

The Liberian Senate then assured the US Government and the International Community that in no way does it support the commission of war crimes, human rights abuses, bribery and corruption in Liberia.

However, in a statement, the Senate said it will seek an opportunity to provide the necessary information on the matter and find a way to address concerns raised by the US Embassy.

The US Embassy last week strongly condemned the election of Nimba County Senator Prince Johnson as Chairman of the Senate’s Committee on National Defense and Intelligence.

It cited well documented atrocities committed by the then INPFL Rebel Leader during the heat of the Liberian civil war.

The US Embassy also condemned the election of Grand Cape Mount County Senator Varney Sherman as Chair of the Judiciary Committee, despite been sanctioned by the US Treasury Department for bribery and corruption.
