Executive Mansion clarifies rumor of Gov.’s plan to hold another Nat’l Referendum

MONROVIA.LIBERIA-The Executive Mansion has clarified rumor of the Government of Liberia’s plan to re-conduct another National Referendum soon.

There has been speculation that the Government is planning to conduct another referendum, with the same propositions that did not pass on December 8, 2020.

But Presidential Press Secretary, Solo Kelgbeh, told the Executive Mansion Press briefing on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, that Government does not have the intention to conduct a referendum soon.

Mr. Kelgbeh said:” The current focus of the Government is to ensure all processes are completed to conduct a nationwide census.”

According to him, it would require an official Gazette from the National Elections Commission (NEC), and a resolution from the National Legislature to conduct the referendum.

Mr. Solo Kelgbeh has reaffirmed President George Weah’s respect for the will of the people as expressed in the recent vote.
