Justice in Chambers places Stay Order on Senate’s decision…..

The Justice in Chambers of the Supreme Court of Liberia has placed a stay order on the Liberian Senate’s decision seeking to incarcerate the Board of Commissioners of the National Elections Commission (NEC), at the Monrovia Central Prison.

It followed the filing of a petition for a Writ of Prohibition by NEC Lawyer, Cllr. Wilkins Wright, to Associate Justice Sie-A-Nyene Youh, who is presiding in Chambers.

Justice Youh has cited both parties to a conference on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, and demanded the Liberian Senate to stay all further actions pending the outcome of the conference.

The Stay- Order was issued Tuesday, February 23, 2021, by the Justice –in-Chambers, after the Liberian Senate had ordered the jailing of NEC Board of Commissioners, for allegedly violating the Elections Law.

Meanwhile, the Liberian Senate has agreed to attend the conference cited by the Supreme Court of Liberia.

ELBC Legislative Reporter said the decision was reached following the reading of the writ by Plenary on Tuesday.

The writ was issued as the Senate prepared to send to jail NEC Board of Commissioners for allegedly violating the elections law of Liberia.

Our Reporter said the Commissioners were then discharged as the Liberian Senate reverted to an Executive Session.
