MONROVIA, LIBERIA –The Commander-In-Chief of the Liberia Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), President George Weah has instructed Defense authorities to include Agriculture in the Engineering Battalion of the Army.

President Weah said the move is geared towards expanding the Army in key areas of national development.

The Liberian leader noted that the AFL, in partnership with the Ministry of Public Works, is expected to develop a Quick Impact Strategy on ways to develop farm to market roads.

He spoke Thursday, February 11, 2021, when he delivered a special message at the programs making the 64^th anniversary of the Armed Forces of Liberia.

President Weah has also asked the Minister of Finance to ensure budgetary allocation and support to the Army’s Agriculture program.

The Liberian leader has therefore, reaffirmed government’s commitment to upgrade and renovate military facilities across the country.

He said the renovation is necessary to address the issue of over crowdedness at the majority military facilities including the Edward Beyan Kessellie (EBK) Military Barracks.

President Weah has also stressed the need for government to improve basic social services for army personnel and their families.

The Liberian leader has lauded First Lady, Clar Weah for the construction of a vocational training center at the EBK Military Barracks in Margibi County and will help the wives of army personnel to acquire skills that will help improve their livelihoods.

At the same time, the Defense Minister, Daniel Ziankan has reiterated the Army’s readiness to support civil authority in improving the livelihood of citizens.

Minister Ziankan underscored the professional competence and readiness of the Liberian Army to implement civil works across the country to better the lives of citizens.

He also lauded partners including the United States, China, Nigeria Ghana, India and Egypt for their support to Liberia’s men and women in arms.

The Minister also highlighted the AFL troops’ involvement in infrastructure and agriculture works in parts of Liberia and recounted the AFL contribution to ongoing efforts to contain the coronavirus in the country.
