Gov. to develop five major farms this year

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Agriculture, is to develop five major farms this year.

The farmlands located in the counties have been lying undeveloped, since the civil war.

Information Minister Ledgerhood Rennie said:” President Weah gave the mandate to the Agriculture Minister to begin efforts in developing these farm lands, as a means of boosting agriculture in the Country.”

President Weah wants the five-thousand acre farmland in Grand Cape Mount County to be the first where rice is grown.

According to Minister Rennie, the President told the Agriculture Minister that he wants to be the first to plant rice on the farm land, during the Second Quarter of the this year.

The Liberian Leader spoke at the first Cabinet Meeting of this year, where the Minister of Agriculture presented an impressive report on activities the Ministry has undertaken so far.

At the same time, over nine-hundred-thousand children, including refugees, are expected to be vaccinated for polio beginning next month.

It followed the discovery of two strains of the polio virus in Liberia by Health Authorities.

According to Liberia’s Information Minister, Health Minister Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah made the disclosure during the first Cabinet Meeting of this year on Thursday, February 4, 2021.

Minister Rennie said:” Children from zero to five years will be targeted under the polio vaccination process, and the exercise will begin next month as a nationwide process, to ensure the targeted children are reached.”

Meanwhile, Health Minister Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah has disclosed that a Bangladeshi Instructor at the Maritime Training Institute in Marshall, Lower Margibi County, has died of COVID-19.

Minister Jallah told Cabinet that samples of all new arrivals tested positive, including the deceased Bangladeshi Instructor, have been sent to the West Africa Laboratory Center for testing the new variant of COVID-19 in Accra, Ghana.
