MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Chairman of the National Traditional Council, Chief Zanzan Karwor, has cautioned against violence, as Liberia moves toward December’s mid-term election.

Chief Karwor called on would-be trouble makers to desist from acts that have the propensity to hinder the Country’s peace, adding that Liberia is looking toward a free and peaceful election come December.

The Traditional Council Chairman spoke Tuesday, August 4, 2020, in Monrovia, when the Patriotic Consciousness Association of Liberia (PACA) recognized and honored him for his role in enhancing the Liberian Society in the areas of peace, women development and culture advancement among others.

Commenting on last week violence in Grand Gedeh County, he frowned on the incident, describing it as wrong.

He said:”The law of the Country backs everyone to move freely across the Country, during and after the time of elections and called on all Liberians to work to avoid recurrence of the incident.”

At the same time, PACA has petitioned the National Traditional Council of Liberia to increase its robustness in tackling ills in the society.

PACA National Executive Chairman, Frederick Baye, wants the Traditional Council immediately intervene in what he says is growing violence and media welfare in the Country.

Speaking during the honoring program of Chief Zanzan Karwor, Mr. Baye urged the Council to increase interaction with state actors, to maintain the Country’s hard earned peace.

He also called on the Traditional Council to get involved in the resolution of land and border disputes across Liberia.

Meanwhile, the ruling coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) has condemned the recent violent incident in Grand Gedeh County.

CDC National Chairman, Mulbah Morlu, said:” The party welcomes call by its Standard Bearer, President George Weah for the Ministry of Justice to swiftly investigate the situation and bring the perpetrators to book.”

Chairman Morlu, however, distanced the CDC from the Zwedru incident, stressing that the party does not support any act of violence.

Speaking to scores of partisans at the party Headquarters in Congo Town Tuesday, August 4, 2020, Chairman Morlu noted that it is about time that all peace-loving Liberians promote the tenants of democracy.

The CDC Chairman expressed optimism that the party will reclaim Montserrado County in the ensuing Mid-Term Senatorial Election.
