MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Board of Director of the African Development Bank has approved fourteen million United States Dollars, to support the Liberian Government’s response to COVID-19.

According to a MICAT release, the money is part of a multi-Country COVID-19 direct budget support to help fight the pandemic, and finance vulnerable female-headed households and school-going children.

The African Development Bank is quoted as saying the Gambia and Sierra Leone are expected to also benefit from the Bank’s latest grant support.

According to the release issued Tuesday, July 28, 2020, the three regional countries share similar challenges relating to economic decline, microeconomic stability and growth among others.

The Bank named business community and targeted small and medium-size enterprises as part of the beneficiaries.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister, Samuel Tweah, thanked the AfDB for the support and confidence reposed in the Liberian Government.

Meanwhile, the Health Team in Grand Bassa County has temporarily closed down the Liberia Agriculture Company (LAC) Hospital because of increase in COVID-19 cases at the Hospital.

The Team took the action when seventeen new confirmed cases of the virus were reported.

According to ELBC Grand Bassa County Correspondent, the seventeen new cases are health workers at LAC Hospital.

Our correspondent quotes the Health Team of the County as saying, the cases were confirmed after contact tracing and testing were carried out.

Our correspondent disclosed that the hospital was closing down of the LAC Hospital by the team was done in consultation with the Management of LAC.

At the same time, reports from Rivercess County say three health workers in the county have been tested positive, for the coronavirus, bringing the number to four.

The Health Officer of Rivercess County, Dr. Joseph Tompoe, said:” The three health workers voluntarily allowed for their specimens to be taken to Monrovia for testing, and their results came back positive.’

According to our correspondent, two of the workers are in the County undergoing treatment, while the others left for Monrovia.

According to Dr. Tompoe, they are in contact with the Montserrado County Health Team, to have the third person traced and taken to the 14 Military Hospital in Lower Margibi County for treatment.
