Youth and Sports Minister wants practices affecting women, girls addressed

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Youth and Sports Minister Zoegar Wilson wants state actors and partners to adequately address harmful practices that continue to affect women and girls in Liberia.

According to Minister Wilson, some of these harmful practices like female genital mutilation and early child marriages will worsen in the Country, if not properly addressed.

He said:” It is saddened that millions of women and girls around the world, including Liberia, are being dehumanized by these harmful practices.”

Minister Wilson spoke Monday, July 13, 2020, in Monrovia, at the launched of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) 2020 State of the World Population Report.

In remarks, UNFPA Country Representative, Bannet Ndyanabangi, said: “The fear of contracting the coronavirus has prevented women and girls from seeking health services.”

The launched of the report was part of activities to commemorate World Population Day celebrated July 11 each year but was held Monday.
