Pres. Weah Submits Revised Public Health Law for Legislative Enactment

MONROVIA, LIBERIA -President George Weah has submitted to the House of Representatives the Revised Public Health Law of Liberia for enactment.

President Weah said title 33 of the Law, adopted on July 16, 1976, has existed for over 42 years, but does not reflect current day health realities.

According to the Liberian Leader, the Law also does not address new and emerging public health challenges such as emergency treatment, discrimination, mental health, nutrition, reproductive health rights, among others.

The President emphasized that the intent of the new Public Health Law is to address all of the challenges Liberians are being faced with.

He named such challenges as integrating the separate laws governing the public health systems to allow all citizens to have equal access to quality health services.

Meanwhile, the instrument has been forwarded to the Health and Judiciary Committees to report in two weeks.

In the interim, Presidential Press Secretary Solo Kelgbeh says President George Weah is overjoyed for the selection of his Coronavirus song by UNESCO.

President Weah’s song, “Let’s Stand Together to Fight Corona”, was selected to be used in the second phase of UNESCO #Don’tGoViral Campaign to create awareness about the virus on the African Continent.

According to Mr. Kelgbeh, the President is also pleased because his song has gained international recognition, and will be used to save lives worldwide.

Speaking to ELBC Tuesday, June 2, 2020, via mobile phone, the Presidential Press Secretary said:” The President is overwhelmed as the song will educate many people about the prevention of the virus.”

Mr. Kelgbeh is, however, calling for the involvement of all Liberians by observing the various health protocols, as it is one of the ways Liberians can defeat the virus.
