Liberia records 238 Coronavirus cases

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia now has two-hundred-thirty-eight Coronavirus cases.

It followed the confirmation of five new cases of the virus.

On Tuesday, May 19, the Incident Management System’s (IMS) report showed that twenty-three persons have died from Coronavirus, with two deaths occurring in the treatment center.

The IMS latest situation also recorded three new recoveries, bringing the total COVID-19 recoveries to one-hundred-twenty-eight, constituting fifty-four percent.

According to the IMS report, eighty-two active cases are in treatment while five-ninety-six contacts are being followed-up.

Meanwhile, Margibi County has recorded its first death from Coronavirus, with the County recording seventeen confirmed cases.

Margibi County is the second hardest hit County next to Montserrado County with two-hundred confirmed cases.

According to the IMS’s report, Gbarpolu County has seven confirmed cases; Nimba County has six, while Grand Bassa County has four.

Meanwhile, Grand Kru, Sinoe and River Gee Counties have each recorded one confirmed case with no death.

The three counties are now in a countdown to be declared Coronavirus free soon.

In a related development, the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) is expected to present its research protocols on the medical herbs developed in Madagascar to treat Coronavirus to the Ethical Board in Liberia.

According to NPHIL Director General, Dr.Mosoka Fallah, once the Ethical Board gives its approval, the herbs will be deployed at the hospital.

He said that under the protocol, it will give everyone equal access to testing and it will be done voluntarily.

Dr. Fallah, besides NPHIL, is working on another protocol to commence the rapid diagnoses tests in the Country as was carried out in Spain.

He called on individuals who are at high risk and have come in contact with affected persons must be tested to stop the spread of the virus.

Dr. Fallah spoke Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at the SKD Complex in Paynesville, when he did his Coronavirus test.
