Chief Justice encourages magistrates to make use of Magisterial Seating Program

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Chief Justice Francis Korkpor wants magistrates take advantage of the Magisterial Seating Program to de-congest prison centers.

Justice Korkpor said:” People with petty crimes should   be tried for their possible release, to reduce the overcrowdings at the prisons amidst COVID-19.”

The Chief Justice also announced plan to meet with magistrates and heads of the Justice Ministry on pre-trial detainees.

He, however, expressed fear that a single infection of an inmate could further spread the virus among the prison population.

Justice Korkpor made the remarks Monday, May 11, 2020, at the opening of the May Term of Criminal Courts at the Temple of Justice.
