Senator Wesseh Wants Solution to Stand-off Between Government and PUL

Monrovia, Liberia – The former Chair on the Senate Committee on Information and Broadcasting, Senator Conmany Wesseh, is calling for a speedy solution to the ongoing stand-off between the Ministry of Information and the Press Union of Liberia (PUL).

The Ministry of Information and the leadership of the Press Union are involved in a disagreement, with the PUL members refusing to accept the reprinted accreditation cards from the ministry for journalists covering the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking in an ELBC interview Saturday, Senator Wesseh said this is the worse time for such situation, adding that it is a distraction to the fight against Coronavirus in the country.

Senator Wesseh however petitioned authorities at the Ministry of Information to take the lead in resolving the matter as workings of the ministry will be undermined without the press.

Senator Wesseh said the media is important to containing the Coronavirus and stressed the need for MICAT and the PUL to speedily put an end to the ongoing rift.

At the same time, River Gee County Senator, Conmany Wesseh, is calling for easing of 3pm lockdown on farmers in rural communities.

Senator Wesseh farmers in rural communities depend on their farming activities for livelihood and that the 3pm lockdown is undermining their productivity.

The River Gee Senator said due to the uncertainty surrounding the Coronavirus crisis and the challenges face by other countries in food production, it is prudent that the 3pm restriction be ease on rural farmers to increase production.

According to Senator Wesseh, other lawmakers are expressing concern about the issue based on complaints from farmers especially in south-eastern Liberia.

Senator Wesseh stressed that this is not the time to keep farmers off the farms, instead, encourage them to handle the food needs of the country.
