Mayor Koijee Warns Against Politicizing COVID-19 Fight

Monrovia Liberia – The City Corporation of Monrovia has been at the center the nation’s fight against the coronavirus outbreak with massive recruitment and dispatch of several young people working in the communities as communicators, mobilizers and active case finders.

The young people have been in the various communities across Montserrado County gathering useful information and data crucial to decision making on public health in Liberia.

However, the move has not come without criticism from the public and some opposition figures with many questioning whether the MCC is the right entity to do such.

Monrovia City Mayor Jefferson Koijee has now dismissed those criticisms and warned Liberians against politicizing efforts being applied across all sectors to fight the coronavirus pandemic in Liberia.

Mayor Jefferson Koijee wants Liberians to demonstrate nationalism and oneness by working together with government in the fight against the deadly Coronavirus.

In an interview with state radio over the weekend at his Sinkor office, Mayor Koijee called on Liberians to leave out their political, religious and tribal interests in the ongoing fight against Covid—19.

The Lord Mayor said ‘Liberia remains the only political party for all Liberians’ noting that it is about time everyone join hands to defeat the coronavirus disease.

He also called on the Christian Community to join government in the fight and use the comfort of their homes to fast and pray for God to intercede in healing the land.

The Monrovia City mayor has however, commended the Muslim Community in Liberia for their support to Government in the fight to eliminate the Corona Virus by their continued collaboration and straight adherence to the Health Ministry’s preventive measures.

Meanwhile Mayor Koijee has lauded President George Manneh Weah for his unlimited support to the MCC in the fight against covid-19.

He then praised the international Community and health workers across Liberia for risking their lives to safe others during this public health emergency.
