MOA Launches Cassava Harvest in Bomi County

Monrovia, Liberia – Deputy Agriculture Minister Dr. George Forpoh has reassured local farmers in Liberia of government’s continue support.

Deputy Minister Forpoh said such support will be done through established structures put in place by the Ministry of Agriculture and partners in the various counties.

The move, according to Dr. Forpoh, is aimed at achieving the key objective of enhancing food security in Liberia.

He was speaking Tuesday in Gangama Town, Klay District, Bomi County during the launch of a cassava harvest project in County.

“We also want to encourage the people of Gangama to not restrict this kind of cooperation with the planting of cassava alone. This approach that u used can also be used in other areas of the agriculture sector that will even give you more money than the cassava will give us. You need to start looking at making cocoa and coffee farms as well as other major cash crops” Dr. Forpoh added.

The Ministry of Agriculture is working with partners including REDD Plus to restore degraded land into sustainable and productive land suitable for farming.

The cassava project was implemented with the involvement and support of the locals of Gangama Town who have since expressed delight over the launch.
