National Public Health Institute Says There is no Suspected Corona Virus Case in Liberia

Monrovia Liberia – Health Authorities have clarified there is no suspected case of a coronavirus in the Country.

The clarification by Health Authorities is response to a report by Front-page Africa claiming that a coronavirus-infected lady from China is on the run.

But speaking to ELBC Thursday, the Acting Director General of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia, Dr. Mosoka Fallah described the report as a rumor with no iota of truth.

Dr. Fallah said the lady spreading such misleading information is a Malaysian national who recently came into the Country.

However, Dr. Fallah said there is no trace of the lady being infected by the virus.

According to him, it is NPHIL the only authorized body clothed with the responsibility to inform the public about any outbreak of the disease in the Country.

Meanwhile, Dr. Fallah says advisory containing basic information about various Precautionary Observation Centers in the Country is being posted at various points of entry across the Country.

At the same time, at least twenty-two persons from Asia are under quarantine at the Precautionary Observation Center (POS) on the Bushrod Island.

Though, no one has been tested positive of the virus yet, they are serving their 14-day incubation period before their certification and subsequent release.

Our reporter who visited the facility Wednesday quotes the quarantined persons as appealing to health authorities to increase the number of bathrooms at the Center.

The Spokesman, Stephen Reed, told reporters that three persons are assigned to a bathroom, something he sees as a risk factor to contracting the virus.

When contacted, the Deputy Manager for Liberia Coronavirus Management, Amos Gborie, said the toilet facilities are immediately disinfected with cholera after use.

However, Mr. Gborie said efforts are being exerted to address the various concerns of persons in isolation at the center.
