LOWER MARGIBI COUNTY, LIBERIA-The Director General of the Regional Intelligence Liaison Office is calling for stronger intelligence sharing and regional cooperation among customs administrations.
Amandu Sesay said:” Criminal networks continue to exploit border weaknesses, change trafficking routes, and take advantage of poor coordination among customs authorities”.
Sesay emphasized the need for timely intelligence sharing on the African continent to identify criminal networks and prevent illegal activities across borders.
Sesay believes that the fight against narcotics, falsified medicines, illegal wildlife trade and other cross-border offences requires more than individual national efforts.
He spoke on Monday, November 2, 2026, in Lower Margibi County at the 17th Joint Annual Meeting of National Contact Points of the World Customs Organization.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of Customs at the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), Saah Saamoi, wants customs officers across Africa to improve their ability to identify high-risk consignments.
Commissioner Saamoi wants such efforts to begin with an enhanced intelligence cycle from collection and validation of information to analysis, dissemination, operational application and feedback.
He urged customs officers to make greater use of the World Customs Organization Enforcement Network, intelligence alert databases and other available intelligence sharing mechanisms.
Commissioner Saamoi said improving the quality and timeliness of enforcement reporting and strengthening customs officers’ capacity are critical.
He called on delegates to move beyond theoretical discussions and place greater emphasis on practical outcomes.
