The Independent National Commission on Human Rights (INCHR) has commended the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) for dismissing officers involved in the mistreatment of a lady.
In a release, the INCHR condemned the reported maltreatment of the lady, describing the act of violence and degrading treatment against civilians as a serious affront to human dignity. The INCHR said the action by the AFL leadership represents an important step toward institutional accountability and sends a clear message that misconduct by members of the Security Sector must not be tolerated.
It urged the AFL leadership to take measures to ensure that the victim receives comprehensive medical care, psychological support, and appropriate rehabilitation, with all necessary costs fully covered by the AFL.
Recently, the AFL publicly disrobed two of its personnel allegedly seen in a viral video manhandling a lady.
The two former soldiers, Sergeant Robert Menyongar and Abu Sheriff, were handcuffed and turned over to authorities for criminal investigation on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, in Monrovia.
Speaking to reporters at the Barclay Training Center (BTC) Military Barracks in Monrovia, the AFL Chief of Staff, Maj. Gen. Davidson Forleh, described the men as “bad apples” within the Armed Forces, and ordered the immediate removal of their families from the military barracks.
Maj. Gen. Forleh further described the alleged act by the former soldiers as totally against established norms in the military.
The AFL Chief of Staff also reaffirmed the Armed Forces of Liberia’s commitment to ensuring its officers do not violate the rights of any citizen.
