Local Gov. Ministry Apologizes to Nat’l Legislature…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Ministry of Local Government has officially apologized to the National Legislature for recent assertions that some cities were dissolved because they fell below the threshold.

Recently, the Deputy Minister for Urban Affairs at the Local Government Ministry, Fatima Bintu Sirleaf, told the nation that some cities were being dissolved as part of efforts to implement provisions of the Local Government Act.

But appearing before the House of Representatives on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, the Minister of Local Government, Francis Nyumalin, clarified that assessments of the affected cities are still ongoing.

He assured lawmakers that upon completion of the exercise, a comprehensive report will be submitted to the National Legislature for review and further action.

ELBC Reporter said,” The Minister’s clarification suggests that the previous report on the proposed dissolution of the cities is nullified, pending the completion of the assessment process and legislative review”.
